Well, Christmas has come and gone already. With everything going on in our lives, it snuck by even faster than usual (we didn't think that was possible). Milley, Maddison, and Marley spent Christmas in the NICU, and the nurses put them in little Christmas onesies and took their first picture together.
Jex and Kaydence had a great Christmas. They got a little spoiled, as usual, and spent a lot of time shuffling around between grandparents while we made trips to the hospital to visit the girls. They spent most of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in their new Spongebob Christmas jammies. We only got them out of them for a couple of hours on Christmas Eve while they went to the movies with grandma...

Slumber Party!
They are doing some remodeling in the NICU at Ogden Regional, so they moved the girls into a new room and put them all in one open crib together. We were pretty excited that we finally got to see them all together. Until now, they have been in separate cribs on different sides of the room, so we had to move from one crib to the next to see each girl. Now we can just stand in one place and see all of their cute little faces!

Triplet updates (with pictures)
Well, as you can see, we don't post very often. It took us a long time to even be convinced to start a blog, and we are a bit busy, so...here's an update on the triplets.
The girls are doing great! They are all out of the incubators, and maintaining their own temperatures very well. The iv's are gone (mainly needed for feeding and antibiotics for the first week or so), Maddison is breathing room air, and Milley and Marley are on just very small amounts of oxygen. They are learning how to feed from a bottle and are making great strides with that. Just today, Kristin got Milley to take her entire feeding from the bottle, and Marley took all but 7 cc's. Maddison was a bit more stubborn, but is still doing well. They all have their own different personalities...Milley is quite mellow, Maddison is feisty and stubborn, and Marley seems to be in between the two depending on the day.
They are all gaining weight like crazy and are nearing the five pound mark. Milley weighs 4 lbs 10 oz., Maddison weighs 4 lbs 7 oz., and Marley weighs 4 lbs 8 oz.
Here are a couple of pictures of each of the girls. More to come.

Ok, let's back up a bit...
Well, we started that blog off with a bang! We might not ever be able to top that first post, but let me fill everyone in on the story in case you're wondering how we got here...
That is a family picture from a few months back. The Barbers consisted of Kristin (mom), BJ (dad), Jex (son), and Kaydence (daughter). Jex is 6 years old and Kaydence is 3. Back in 2008, we decided we wanted to try and have another child. After a few months with no results, Kristin was off and on fertility pills for another six months or so with still no results. We, along with her doctor, were getting a bit frustrated, but finally it happened...the pregnancy test showed positive. Kristin tried three just to make sure. All positive. (This was possibly a sign of things to come. Perhaps the fourth test may have been negative?) When Kristin was about 2 months along, we went to the doctor for a visit. She asked him to do an ultrasound, because she was still skeptical about being pregnant. The doctor put the monitor on her stomach for a few seconds, and immediately pulled it back off and said "hmmm". Kristin's first thought was that she was not pregnant. The doctor then asked "how many did you want?"...and if you read the first post you know how this story ends...

The triplets have arrived!!!
On Saturday, November 28, 2009, at 1:14, 1:15, and 1:16 pm, Milley, Maddison, and Marley made it safely into this world. They were about 7 1/2 weeks early and are progressing well in the NICU at Ogden Regional Medical Center. The delivery came as a bit of a surprise to us. During a "routine" visit to one of Kristin's doctors on Tuesday, November 24, the doctor noticed that Kristin was beginning to show signs of pre-mature labor. We were sent to Ogden Regional so that they could monitor her and the babies, and attempt to slow down or stop the labor. After using magnesium to stop the contractions, they had decided that they would probably keep Kristin at the hospital on bedrest for as long as possible. Kristin began mentally preparing herself for the possibility of having to stay at the hospital for an extended period of time, however, Friday evening she began to have some pain in her lower left side, and began running a low-grade fever. On Saturday, the doctor determined that this was the first sign of infection and decided that the best thing to do would be to deliver the babies. In less than 3 hours, Kristin was leaving the OR a few pounds lighter, and the babies were in the NICU being assessed for their needs...what an amazing experience!
